Welcome to Kungkungan Bay Resort
Sulawesi is well known for critter diving. The Lembeh Straits are where everyone wants to be. The resort is nestled on the site of an old coconut plantation on the Sulawesi coast of Lembeh Strait. Located on the sunrise side of the peninsula, the view from the guest accommodations encompasses rugged Lembeh Island, and the smaller Serena Island.
The Resort was specifically designed to achieve a pleasing aesthetic effect with minimum impact on the environment. By using local materials and traditional architecture and adding western style bathrooms and amenities the resort reflects the local Minahasan culture, while providing international standards of comfort, convenience, safety, and privacy. The private jetty with camera rinse tanks and hot showers is great for photographers. Additionally there is a camera charging room, an air conditioned bar, swimming pool with swim-up bar, a lounge, internet access and lending library. There are also WIFI hot spots available throughout the resort.
The restaurant is open 24 hours a day. Indulge anytime of the day to order up Asian or western delights. The restaurant is located over the water and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding islands and the living reef below. The second floor has yet another restaurant that has a wider selection and boasts the best BBQ on the island.
Don’t forget the “Tepi Laut Spa”, upon arrival your welcome includes a complementary twenty minute head and shoulder massage to refresh you after your long journey.
The cottages are crafted from beautiful coconut wood. Each cottage has a separate large sitting room with veranda, an air-conditioned bedroom with queen bed, ceiling fan, mini-bar, hair-dryer and large shower room. A second bed can be added to some rooms, to increase occupancy to a maximum of 4 persons.
Beachfront Traditional Houses
The original traditional house style has two queen beds, cable TV, a ceiling fan, air conditioning, mini bar and well-equipped shower room. The L-shaped room gives privacy for each bed; this is a perfect room for non-couples. There is also one family traditional house with 2 separate bedrooms; the main bedroom has a king-size bed and the smaller bedroom has two single beds that are connected to a separate lounge area. This house has all the amenities of the standard traditional houses.
Beachfront Villas
The villas are perfect for couples or honeymooners. Each room is air conditioned and offers an open style huge living area, king bed, spacious veranda and large bathroom with bath facilities. All Beachfront Villas offer mini-bar, tea & coffee maker, hair-dryer and cable TV. Room service is available from 7AM to 9PM.
Hillside Villas
Located on a hillside within the resort is the Hillside Villa, an intimate and exclusive accommodation on two stories. The view is stunning and all the privacy a romantic couple could wish for. The Hillside Villa has the same amenities as the resort's Beachfront Villas, with ensuite shower room, air-conditioning on both levels, mini-bar, tea & coffee maker, hair-dryer and cable TV. All rooms are non-smoking.
The dive center is a PADI dive center and offers a full range of courses. The jetty is the perfect spot for getting away to dive the blue waters. Hot showers and a large camera rinse tank are available. There is also a room for charging you flash and camera batteries. Nitrox is available at an extra charge per tank. The dive guides are knowledgeable about all of the animals lurking in the waters, their behavior and how to find them.
There is a strick buddy policy at the resort and if you do not have one, one can be provided for you for an additional charge, as safety is a top priority. Groups are small and there is a maximum limit of four guests per dive guide.
The resort is proud to offer North Sulawesi's only truly exclusive dive site. Kungkungan Bay House Reef is only dived by our in-house guests. No fishing has been allowed in the bay since the resort opened, way back in 1994, making this without doubt the fishiest dive site anywhere in the Strait – and it's your alone to enjoy, when you stay. Tanks, weights and weight belts are included in a Faces of the Sea Diving Package.
The exceptional year-round weather conditions provide a variety of diving experiences, from "muck dives" on pure black volcanic sand to colorful coral reefs and enticing historic wrecks. Whatever your pleasure, Lembeh is always sure to offer fascinating and exciting underwater discoveries. This is the best place in the world for macro photography! Lembeh plays host to a cornucopia of weird and wonderful creatures to be found here and here alone. We moor over shallow black sandy slopes, where seahorses and nudibranchs are in abundance. Then there are the Inimicus devilfish, dwarf lionfish, scorpionfish, pufferfish, octopus, pegasus sea moths, frogfish, ribbon eels and flying gunnards. Truly a one-off opportunity for all photographers and anyone looking for the unusual and unseen, you're sure to see something that you have never seen before, no matter how experienced you are.
